Celebrating our One Water Week, two people from World Duty Free will keep walking the length of the Heathrow Terminal between 5am and 10pm to cover a total distance of 1,050 miles, which is the distance from the UK to Africa!
This week, 15th to 21st June, we have been celebrating the launch of the first One Water Week by the One Foundation. This dedicated week gives people across the country the chance to get involved, by organising local fund raising activities in support of One Water.
One of our key supporters, World Duty Free, who have funded an incredible 32 PlayPumps through the sale of One water since 2006, have invited their staff to get involved and organise their own fundraising events and as expected, the response has been tremendous.
One great example is a ‘Walk Promotion’ in Heathrow’s T5. Two staff members will keep walking the length of the Terminal between 5am and 10pm to cover a total distance of 1,050 miles, which is the distance from the UK to Africa! It will take them about 2 weeks to cover this distance and will undoubtedly raise a lot of awareness and public support for One, which is what it’s all about’.
World Duty Free are also launching this month, to co-incide with One Water Week, a re-usable One Water branded jute bag for customers to use in its 73 tax and duty free stores. This initiative makes World Duty Free the first airport retailer to take the lead and produce a reusable shopping bag for it’s stores, which in itself is an incredibly positive step to take.
The One Foundation has been overwhelmed by the incredible support World Duty Free has shown to our organisation and we really applaud their initiative in coming up with this latest idea.
World Duty Free has made One Water it’s charity of the year, its staff often get involved in various fundraising activites and – as with the Jute Bag – the company actively seeks effective ways to boost the donations it makes to the charity.
Mark Riches, CEO of World Duty Free says, ‘One Water is at the core of our CSR strategy and we are 100% committed to supporting One and the vital work they do’.
Here at Global Ethics, we wish all of the staff well with their fundraising this week and we would like to say a huge thank you to World Duty Free!
