HIV

We like simple solutions.

And what better product to raise funds for HIV/AIDS projects in Africa – where death rates can outstrip birth rates – than a condom? When you buy a One® condom 100% of the profits go towards VCT (Voluntary Counselling & Testing) outreach clinics with our charity partner, The Donald Woods Foundation.

The programme takes teams of doctors, nurses and counsellors to visit rural communities – villages often too remote for most hospitals and clinics. The staff then provide HIV/AIDS testing and counselling. This way people that are HIV negative know it and are educated on how to stay negative and those who are HIV positive are identified as soon as possible and are referred to clinics where they can receive the correct life-saving ARV (antiretroviral) drugs to increase their quality of life for longer.

Thanks to customers of The Co-Operative, The Co-Operative Pharmacy, Ethical Superstore, Amazon and P&H – where you can buy One® condoms – we have already funded over 80 days of outreach clinic work. And each day we screen and offer counselling to over 100 people.

In 2008 alone over 10,000 people were tested for HIV. Those testing positive were referred to clinics to receive ARV (antiretroviral). And those testing negative were educated on how to stay negative.
