Sustainable Livelihoods
As the effects of climate change and global warming become ever more apparent, those engaged in subsistence and market-based livelihoods are increasingly exposed. In the face of such risks, securing the rights of people living in poverty to food and income security is paramount. In many developing countries over 80% of workers are engaged in vulnerable employment. Indeed, it is estimated that the $1.25 a day poverty rate in sub-Saharan Africa will still be as high as 38% in 2015, and the actual number of people living in poverty in sub-Saharan Africa will increase compared to figures from 1990.
In order to tackle this, we fund chicken-farming projects in Malawi, providing a sustainable source of income and nutrition of those who need it the most.
