29,625 of you would have died before your 5th birthday29,625 of you would have died before your 5th birthday

It's a sobering thought that 29,625 of you would have died before your 5th birthday.

More thoughts from Malawi...

One are not an organisation that likes to constantly remind people of the suffering that is out there in the world; we’d rather focus on the good side and show the differences that are being made to people’s lives and how easy is it for you to do so.

However, we do keep on top of statistics and when you read them it really is a sobering moment. And I’m always looking for ways of translating these numbers to ones that can be easily understood relative to our every day lives.

I find it startling that, based on Malawian statistics, of the 237,000 people in our Facebook community, 29,625 of you would have died before your 5th birthday; primarily from water borne disease and poor sanitation. That’s 1 in every 8 of you.

And what is astounding is that it only takes some 13,000 of you to choose One as your brand of bottled water and toilet tissue, buying no more than you usually would, and you would have provided clean water and sanitation to 29,625 people.
