Day 1 on the Robert Dyas tripDay 1 on the Robert Dyas trip

Peter from Robert Dyas left the office on Friday to a round of applause from colleagues, wishing him well for his trip to Lesotho to see the first Robert Dyas PlayPump. He was also loaded down with gifts for the children at Mohlehli Primary School.

We flew overnight to Joburg and touched down at 6.30am. After enduring rush hour jams we spent the morning touring the PlayPump factory with Trevor Field, looking at the roundabouts come off the production line and straight onto a truck bound for Mozambique. For Peter it was amazing to link all the activity in a factory in Joburg with the One Fridge Jug that sits alongside thousands of other products in his stores across the south east. One of the pumps was earmarked as the 3rd Robert Dyas Pump.

We also had a sneak peak at some exciting new pump designs which will have to remain top secret at the moment!

After lunch we took a tour of a township before heading to Soweto and learning about its emotionally charged history. Investment from the football world cup is changing Soweto for the better but that is not an excuse to forget what happened there during apartheid.

We stopped at Nelson Mandela’s house on route to wish him well from over his security gate.

An early night tonight before a flight to Lesotho in the morning.
