Happy (if ever so belated) Valentines from One!Happy (if ever so belated) Valentines from One!

This year One was invited to The co-operative HQ in order to raise awareness of One products across their employees on Valentines Day and I thought I’d share the adventure… most notably giving away One Condoms to some very bewildered (and slightly embarrassed) looking staff.

It was a good job that myself or Kelly aren’t of a shy disposition as Monday contained by far enough drama for one Valentines day...the condoms seem to have a remarkable quality of not wanting to stay in their box (I think potentially an under-marketed quality that would be popular amongst ABC1 men) - the first instance of this happening being the taxi journey home on Friday night. Arrived outside my house to find 6,000 condoms had littered themselves all over the taxi’s boot and subsequently my road / pavement / drive way in front of my dear old 97 year old neighbour...the taxi driver looked fairly sure that I must be some sort of sexual deviant, so said I was stocking up for a swingers party...he looked suitably impressed so gave him an invite (fancy dress mandatory) and gave him my boss’ address for next weekend...

Eventually arrived at the Co-op and set up a stand in the Co-op head office canteen. All the 2,000 head office staff had been e-shotted in the morning – wishing them a Happy Valentines from One Condoms and the afternoon saw them being propositioned by Kelly and I giving away condoms and love hearts to their hearts content. Even the canteen staff had t-shirts with ‘New Generation Condoms’ plastered across them and handed out information leaflets with lunch...coffee, sandwich and side of glow in the dark condom anyone?

On our departure, the remaining condoms made their final bid for freedom – Kelly managed to scatter across the road / pavement / bus stop directly outside the entrance of the head office and on one of Manchester’s busiest city centre roads. Coincidentally this was at the exact time it started to rain and gale winds blew condoms / instruction packets down the street. Luckily a homeless man was on hand to help Kelly and I crawl around the floor (short skirt wasn’t the best choice of outfit Kelly but think he appreciated it) and was a fitting end...what better way for two single girls in their twenties to spend Valentines Day than crawling around the floor of Manchester streets picking up condoms in the rain...

On a more serious note, this was a great opportunity to able to raise awareness of the One product range and hopefully introduce a One Condom unit into co-op stores. So keep your fingers crossed for us and your eyes peeled for it in your local store soon and buy one if you do (guys – from our experience they won’t be staying put in the box for long!)

Hi, I’m Jess. I joined Global Ethics last October as part of the sales team. I look after some of our retail accounts and get involved in new business. It’s pretty different to any roles I’ve had before...mainly because you get involved here there and everywhere with everyone and anything. It’s pretty hectic but exciting to be involved in something that so many people feel so supportive towards.
