If the pants fit.....If the pants fit.....

....wear them up Everest.

OK, so I'm second to last on the fund raising leaderboard  - and bottom of the rung in terms of the fitness tests (but just behind Mr Spall in the chubby dept.) but today, I decided to walk half way home rather than motorbike it.

I was rather dreading it given the dreadful weather today, but I have to say I absolutely loved it. Wearing my, kindly donated, hiking pants (yes really), socks and top from John Lewis, I caught the tube from Holborn to Hammersmith and then came out and headed home to Kew along the Thames path. Absolutely stunning. What an amazing walk. Having lived in Teddington by the river for the last 7 years I really enjoyed finding a new part of the Thames to wander along. I set a pretty faced paced walk and managed to cover the 4 miles in just over an hour. At least I think it was 4 miles. The app i downloaded for my blackberry worked brilliantly until the phone ran out of battery......oops.

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting some of the team at Exodus, who're leading our trip up to Everest Base Camp. What a fabulous bunch of people they are. I've done so many talks about how I got into this over the last few years, but they really made me feel, well rather emotional to be honest. It's not everyday that you find people that want to support you.....but then the support just gets bigger and bigger. I even met one of the team, Olly, who'd decided to swim across to the Isle of Wight - across one of the busiest shipping lanes on the south coast - to raise money for The One Foundation.

It's Friday night, Juno (my dog) is snoring next to me on the sofa, the wife and baby are asleep upstairs, but I just felt compelled to write something. So if you want to support me and my summit pants (yes really - they're called summit pants) half way up Everest to 5,555m above sea level, do spare what you can and sponsor me: http://www.onedifference.org/events/onebigclimb/sponsor-us Many thanks Dunc

About the Author

Hi there, I'm Duncan Goose the founder of Global Ethics, the company behind the One brand and I'm really delighted that occasionally I get to jot down a few thoughts here on our blog.  My background is in marketing but the catalyst for creating Global Ethics happened as a result of a two year motorbike trip around the world between '98 and 2000.

It was an amazing odyssey and I was fortunate to have people all over the world take me under their wing when it went wrong - as it sometimes did.  I learnt a lot about humanity and about the kindness of strangers.

When I left, I knew 3 neighbours in my street in London, and having just moved in London again, I've made a point of getting to know all of them.  I often say that if you knew a neighbour in your street was starving, or dying of HIV, you'd do something to help them and this is kind of what One has started to do - abeit on a global scale.  We're all neighbours, but sometimes we just don't realise it.

We're changing lives, one person, one day at a time.  It's a legacy project - but one we can all be part of.

And it's hugely exciting.
