Caroline Goose runs the Dublin Marathon for The One Foundation

A few weeks ago, Duncan's sister Caroline Goose ran the Dublin Marathon in order to raise money for The One Foundation.

Caroline raised an amazing total of £1036, she told me "The marathon was an awesome experience and I'm thrilled that I finally achieved my dream! I ran it with a very good Irish friend of mine. Dublin was absolutely freezing at 8am when we all huddled together waiting for the gun to go off, but once the crowds started moving, the sun came out and we ended up with the perfect race conditions!

The first 10 miles were brilliant, we flew around the course enjoying everything in sight and the crowds were wonderful.  They really made it so exciting for us, cheering us on, shouting our names as we ran past.  There was music, steel bands and radio stations belting out tunes at various parts of the course.

At mile 11, my knee went which was a bit of a disaster.  I was more angry than anything, but crunched on some paracetamol and carried on.  It settled down again after a mile or two which was good.  There was an awesome steel band at the half marathon point and I punched the air as we ran past it, delighted to have reached the 13 mile point.

At mile 17, my knee decided to go again, mainly due to the hills we were encountering.  It was fine going up, but it didn't like coming down with all my weight on it.  I just bit my lip and kept running.  It settled down and only blew up again at mile 21. At that point, I was in another zone, just absolutely determined it was not going to put an end to my marathon dream.

Luckily, I never hit 'The Wall' and ran all the way around the entire course to the finish line. When I saw the end point and the clock under a canopy of balloons, I decided to go for it and sprint the last few hundred yards with everything I had left in me.

It took us a total of 5hrs 12minutes. It was such a fantastic day and I'm so proud to have achieved it after the 14wks of training I put myself through.

What a fantastic achievement Caroline, we're all very proud here at One, and would like to say a huge thank you for your determination and for your generous donation.

About the Author

I guess I’m ‘Little Miss Everything’, if you need to know something, come to Nikki. I have a wide range of responsibilities ranging from donor communications, case studies, to supporting the marketing team on various campaigns/projects. Everyday the team have me doing weird and wonderful things.

Duncan, being an old friend, asked me to come and work for him for just one day a week, he was drowning in admin and needed saving. He’s a trickster though, because he knows that once you enter the family of One, you are hooked and one day a week soon becomes a full time living, breathing passion.

Three years on, Global Ethics isn’t just a job, it’s a way of life. From the pride you feel when you hear what you have achieved for thousands of beautiful children in Africa, to the late night emails that the team send while sitting there at 10pm working like a trojan with a glass of wine, to the belly laughs we have in the office. I’m very fortune to work with such an inspiring, passionate bunch of people, who really are my One family.
