Schools’ Enterprise and PlayPump initiative off to a flying start with September Balloon release.

Lincolnshire and Rutland schools are combining enterprise with fundraising and are planning to get this off to a flying start in September with a 'One' balloon launch.

Katie Vause, who is leading this project writes: “The Lincolnshire and Rutland Enterprise Learning Partnership have pledged support for a fantastic fundraising venture involving a number of primary, secondary and special schools across the county. Inspired by the wonderful work of Global Ethics and the One Foundation, the aim is to raise an amazing amount to fund a One Water PlayPump which will benefit a community in Malawi.

The charity campaign, which officially launches on 21st September, will use fundraising as a way of developing enterprising education opportunities for all. Students will be encouraged to use their initiative, teamwork skills, creativity, leadership and risk-taking skills to create, plan and manage a whole host of different events/challenges where all money raised will be added to the grand total. Currently, the ELP have managed to raise over two thousand pounds - largely thanks to the brave efforts of Yarborough Year 9 student Bo Haywood who ran an astounding 40miles to raise money for the project.

The campaign is open to all schools within the counties to get involved. Fundraising and information packs are to be sent out early September and will include educational resources, fundraising ideas, sponsorship forms, assembly presentations and information regarding the supply of One drinks which could be sold within schools. A One Balloon launch is planned for the official launch day of 21st September - students will track the distanced travelled by their balloons to see if together we can travel the distance from Lincoln to Malawi.
This is a truly wonderful and unique way of encouraging our young learners to get involved in social enterprise and see how, by working together, we can achieve something truly fantastic and life changing.”

This is a brilliant initiative Katie, thank you for your support and your boundless energy. Good luck!

About the Author

I joined Global Ethics in October 2007, looking after Business Development for Foodservice. The moment I heard about One and PlayPumps I was hooked and had to be a part of this wonderful team. I have a film degree, speak French and love travelling. I’m married to Scott, he’s in the Royal Navy and loves ‘One’ as much as I do. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Lesotho and South Africa to see first-hand the incredible impact PlayPumps have on communities. The best part is to see the fun children have playing on their PlayPump. It really is life-changing for all involved and would not be possible without the support of the amazing people who buy One products.
