Today in the One office, we are celebrating National Watermelon Day. Most of the team prefer to slurp their watermelon in huge slices, although a couple prefer it blended into a fruity cocktail. So, you might be wondering what's the connection with One?

In sub-saharan Africa, where our One Foundation vegetable garden projects are focused, the wild watermelon originated and was first domesticated at least 4,000 years ago.

Today, through the sales of our Vitamin Enhanced Water, The One Foundation funds vegetable gardens - so Malawians can grow nutritious fruit and vegetables to feed their families.

Our aim is to help families grow enough food to feed themselves, plus a little bit extra to sell as they can then earn enough to see them through times when crops fail and we have already funded over 4,500 vegetable gardens, providing much needed nutrition and a valuable source of income.

About the Author

I work in the marketing team of One, and my role is focused on social media and online marketing activities, mainly looking after the web-site, monthly newsletters and online KPI reporting. When I get time to breath, I also keep an eye on the Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr noise.

I've worked with with One since Feb 2009 ~ they are a wonderful organisation and great people to work with. I saved up my money and went to see some projects in Lesotho early 2010 ~ a real eye opener and it reinforced the What and Why I support One.
