The book bus is coming....

Our fantastic Group M supporters are currently on a trip visiting their PlayPumps and experiencing Malawi - the warm heart of Africa.

They are staying at a very special Lodge in Blantyre called Fisherman's Rest, and yesterday they got to see for themselves some of the amazing projects that this lodge is involved with.  I had the pleasure today of meeting Victor, who runs Fisherman's Rest, as he’s currently at the Travel Exhibition at ExCel.

Not only do they help to renovate schools in the local community, but they provide computers, mosquito nets and medical care to villagers too, and they also support the 'Book Bus Foundation', which is totally AMAZING.  Ian and Group M saw this in action yesterday.

The Book Bus Foundation believe that every child should have the opportunity to discover the hidden treasures that books contain - they have buses in Zambia, Ecuador, and Fisherman's Rest have the privilege of working with and supporting the book bus in Malawi.

The bus is full of beautiful story books, and it travels around visiting 23 of the local schools, teaching the children to read, act, do crafts, act out the stories.  Some of these children have never seen story books before, it’s amazing for their education and makes learning really fun.

The bus features illustrations drawn by Quentin Blake - the illustrator for the Roald Dahl books.  Quentin, is a trustee of the Book Bus Foundation, and gave his permission for a local artist in Zambia to use his artwork.

Heart-warmingly amazing, I’m sure you’ll agree.

About the Author

I guess I’m ‘Little Miss Everything’, if you need to know something, come to Nikki. I have a wide range of responsibilities ranging from donor communications, case studies, to supporting the marketing team on various campaigns/projects. Everyday the team have me doing weird and wonderful things.

Duncan, being an old friend, asked me to come and work for him for just one day a week, he was drowning in admin and needed saving. He’s a trickster though, because he knows that once you enter the family of One, you are hooked and one day a week soon becomes a full time living, breathing passion.

Three years on, Global Ethics isn’t just a job, it’s a way of life. From the pride you feel when you hear what you have achieved for thousands of beautiful children in Africa, to the late night emails that the team send while sitting there at 10pm working like a trojan with a glass of wine, to the belly laughs we have in the office. I’m very fortune to work with such an inspiring, passionate bunch of people, who really are my One family.
