Winner of the One Water Australia James O’Connor competition
We have a winner! One Water Australia is proud to announce that Adrian Kenny from St Ignatius College in New South Wales has won his school a private training session with our ONE ambassador, star rugby player, James O’Connor. James is very excited to be able to pass on his rugby skills to Adrian and his team mates.
This is Adrian’s winning entry for the One Water Australia competition:
Clean water saves lives, dirty water takes lives. Our lives depend so much on clean, available water. This stops the spread of diseases like Typhoid, cholera and even malaria. When we play sport we need to drink plenty of water, yet so many are denied this simple necessity even to live.
Thank you to Adrian for writing this. It perfectly reflects the clean water issue millions of people worldwide have to deal with on a daily basis.
The One Water jury had the difficult task to choose a winner from many good entries from all over Australia. ONE also wanted to acknowledge the following school entries - it was a though choice!:
Lachlan Spedding, Geelon Grammar School, Victoria
Water is one of the building blocks of life. Without clean water we would not survive. People that are not fortunate enough to have clean water suffer from ill health and disease. For me it allows me to stay clean, rehydrate and do the things that I love doing.
Allison Davis, Christian Outreach College, Queensland
The ability to turning on a tap without fear of contamination or illness allows me to live and enjoy life, play sport and participate in community activities. We live in a very lucky country.
In Australia we participate in many sports and it’s so easy to keep hydrated by drinking clean drinking water. It’s hard to believe that in developing countries, so many people still lack access to safe drinking water and need to spend hours a day collecting water from a water source.
The One Water team and James O’Connor thank everyone who participated in the competition. Thank you for helping us to spread the word about our cause to bring safe drinking water to communities in developing countries.
